I found this at a estate sale today - it looks really old & has a great subject; a indian chief talking to another indian as they sit on top of a butte looking over the western landscape!
But it is dark - first photos were taken in shade & 2nd & 3rd from bottom were taken in front of a full setting sunlight - it made it so much easier to see! Why - the first ones were taken outside in good but not direct light?.

Can anyone make out the signature?
    Thoughts on the painting?
    Thank you!

Something like... Eugenia S. Sequeshel? And framed in Cuba? Would you post a close-up photograph of the label please?

Very lack of detail. Something looks off to me.

The Indians hand that's pointing is not very well done. Looks amateurish to me.

Suspect that's meant to be the Grand Canyon (and very possibly copied from a post card along the lines of this.)

I thought it looked like Eugenia or Eugenie S Saquechel however Taquechel seems to come up as a more common name. Can't say anything comes right up though. I guess the last name and even middle initial could be T or even J or something.

Its amateur work. You probably won't find the artist. Look at the picture of the canyon debora posted compared to the OP post.

If it is Taquechel, here is a really extensive Cuban genealogy page on that name.

I started looking but it is really long. Perhaps you can find something in there. Occupations are listed for some.

Interesting. No familiar with that surname. But Cuban origin in keeping with label on back.

Family had a drugstore in Havana, now a museum. That makes sense because it appears that the word "Farmacéuticos" (Pharmaceuticals) is on painting's back label so strong possibility family connection. The label also appears to have a telephone number which helps with dating.

And it's very possible that Eugenia was Maria Eugenia as very common in Spanish-speaking countries for girls to have Mary as first name followed by a second name they are called by. At the bottom of the above link, there's contact information for the family historians. Perhaps they can be of help. The family history does include a Maria Eugenia Taquechel born in 1892. Date would work with your piece so may be yours. And lots of family members in Miami.
