How old is this table?

    It was sold as being 19C with original gilding.
    But it was sold by someone who does gilding as a business so it's possible it was touched up.
    The interior is not MDF despite the fact that it looks like MDF but the whole thing is made from a reasonably light timber. The Marble is very heavy but the frame is not.

    Not unhappy with what I got it for but always interested in finding out the history and age of a piece

    I scratched away at the layer on the internal part that the marble sits on and it seems to have three layers
    The first layer is that kind of ochre/gold matte paint and then underneath that is a thin layer of white plaster and then underneath that is light timber. See this photo here

    Yes it's the exact same one. It was then sold at auction

    Hard saying on something like this. Does show some legitimate age and quality seems better than mid-20th century and later copies. Something about that gesso painted interior gives me pause in saying this is 19th century. I really don't know if this was common practice or not.
