It was sold as being 19C with original gilding.
But it was sold by someone who does gilding as a business so it's possible it was touched up.
The interior is not MDF despite the fact that it looks like MDF but the whole thing is made from a reasonably light timber. The Marble is very heavy but the frame is not.

Not unhappy with what I got it for but always interested in finding out the history and age of a piece
I will put more photos below
    Thanks

I scratched away at the layer on the internal part that the marble sits on and it seems to have three layers
The first layer is that kind of ochre/gold matte paint and then underneath that is a thin layer of white plaster and then underneath that is light timber. See this photo here

Yes it's the exact same one. It was then sold at auction

Hard saying on something like this. Does show some legitimate age and quality seems better than mid-20th century and later copies. Something about that gesso painted interior gives me pause in saying this is 19th century. I really don't know if this was common practice or not.

The marble is real marble and thick stone. That alone makes me think this is older, but I have no idea about whodunnint, where or when.

Seems more likely common practice earlier than later? Generally quality related details like that get lost over time don't they?
Ie no one would see underneath ordinarily.
