It's a Wing Nut, but Big!

    The frame is malleable cast iron, ~5" across the wings; the square steel nut is 1 1/8" across the flats, cut with 3/4"-NC threads. Weight is 12 1/2 ounces. I don't have a clue what its design purpose may have been...but I think it has some age to it. Nary a mark to be found on it...Thanks for lookin'!

    The two-piece construction is unique. I'm only finding single cast construction used with concrete forms.

    Wonderful construction. I wonder if the wing part was added because the nut had to be tightened or loosened regularly?

    If there's no practical use for it now, it would make a great decor item or perhaps a PW. It has a great presence and makes you want to pick it up and take a look.
