Ginger Jar

    I go back to work tonight so hope you all don't mind if I post a few more. I think this is 19th century ginger jar. Could you please c IMG_1708.JPG IMG_1709.JPG IMG_1710.JPG IMG_1711.JPG onfirm.

    I've never seen an insert like that under the lid. Can you post a better shot of the inside of the insert (as seen in 2nd pic above)? Otherwise - I would think that jar could be anywhere from late 19th to mid/late 20th. (I'm thinking later) Hopefully someone else can date it precisely.

    while I can't speak to this jar.....I had a ginger jar....with marmalade ...from Harrods...in the early 80's.....with that same inner lid..!
    just sayin...:):)

    Perhaps some put a new inner lid on an old ginger jar. I purchased the jar in the mid 80's at a house auction. At that time the elderly owner said it had been in her family for at least 75 years. I have actually always wondered about the inner lid...didn't feel quite right with the rest of the jar and lid.

    usually those inner lids are on tea caddies

    chinese prunus ginger jar,probably late 19th will be right date
