IMG_4939.jpeg IMG_4938.jpeg IMG_4934.jpeg IMG_4941.jpeg Hi all,a recent post made me think of this cool little home/workshop fabricated lamp I had in storage. The trunk is completely non-magnetic so the ‘trunk’ look was achieved by using lead. Looks to have been bronzed a one stage (now mostly rubbed off) Standing 21,5cm. Is the switch 60’s or earlier? Obviously will need to be rewired with a new lamp fixture. Thanks for any comments

Didn’t find this exact info previously. I think this solves that. So the lamp must be 50’s or so.

An inline cord switch, commonly known as a "zeppelin" or torpedo-style switch, made of cream-colored plastic or bakelite from the mid-20th century.

    Overview
    • Type: Inline cord switch / torpedo switch / "zeppelin" switch
    • Material: Cream-colored plastic or Bakelite
    • Era: Mid-20th century (commonly found on vintage lamps from the 1950s)

What kind of shade would this have had? One that clips on to the light bulb? Have never seen an inline switch like this. Is it just on/off or a dimmer? Think 1950s is the latest it would be, although, of course, the lamp base & the switch may not be the same age.

I've never seen one either, but Boland is (IIRC) in South Africa. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Continental European.

If non-magnetic, it's going to be spelter (a zinc alloy), then electro plated with a copper or bronze finish, common to lamps 1890's onward. There was a flurry of tree form lamps being made around 1910-20 Arts & Crafts era. I don't know what country you're in, but the 50s-60s re-wiring looks European. I had and sold a similar lamp with a copper cone shaped shade about 15 years ago, it was definitely circa 1915.
