It reflects kind of like a star sapphire with the reflection moving when the light moves. Thanks in advance!

Looks like a black pearl. Looks like someone has done a wire wrap job on it, so probably not a naturally (expensive) black pearl.

the wire looks slapdash , but the sword shape is nice.

That it has been drilled through twice also argues that the pearl is not of great value.

Probably dyed Chinese freshwater "peacock" pearl.

Nice! I think it is black mother of pearl rather than a pearl, that would explains the reflects moving with light:cyclops:

@vintagerobin I was assuming the iridescent material was spherical, but kyra's observation makes me less sure. What shape is it? Spherical or more of a cabochon?

Bronwen asks a good question! Maybe a pic of the back will help too:)

The front looks a bit rounded but less so than a mabe pearl. My guess is either a coin pearl or a rather flat pearl cabochon.

Not sure about the stone, did you test the metal for gold?

I'm sorry I haven't been back before now. Yesterday was a very tiring day.

Here's a pic of the back. I think that's a line of glue on it.

It isn't flat on the back like a cabochon but has the same curve on both sides.

I looked closely for a mark but didn't find one. These wire pieces are usually plated if not just brass.

It doesn't have the iridescence or shiny surface of a pearl or mop.

I answered you wrong the first time. The iridescence is more
like a cat's eye. But it changes to more round when you move it certain ways.

I'm saying it isn't pearl or MOP but I need to clean it and see if that changes how it looks.
