IMG_7060.jpeg IMG_7082.jpeg IMG_7058.jpeg IMG_7059.jpeg IMG_7067.jpeg Hi all,to me this is something different (I usually see African themed or more wildlife themed copper decor plaques from the 80’s or so) An interesting item for the equivalent of about $3. I think it’s beautiful work with nice detail.Frame size 27x33cm.

    From google:

“The scene portrays a historical or religious depiction of a physician/healer checking on a sick or dying patient. The standing figure on the right gesture with a raised finger, while the central figure leans over the bedded patient holding a small vessel (likely for medicine or anointing oils) The background features three romanesque or medieval-style architectural arches.

    I read something like
A.M Haydenyel? (not sure) 1971 or how do you read it? Thank you for any comments

    I read 1972.

You are right about that, I had two massive ones from a clearance, one had Springboks and the other had Impala's.

Too big for eBay, took them to a fair and no one gave them a second look.

In the end I stripped them for their copper value.
The main weight was plaster underneath the copper, the actual copper is very thin.

Thanks for the comment Davey. I also see flower motif ones every now then. But those ‘usual’ ones also don’t really interest me. This one is probably also not worth much, but it’s interesting and Ive never seen a similar one like this before.

This one has a more recent price is on the back, doesn't it? "R 850"? Followed by the word "Old"?

Yes,not sure where that price comes from (I can only guess that it must have been in a antique or secondhand shop or something at one stage?) I didn’t as the lady where she got it from. I paid a bargain R50 at the flea market.

    Looks like it.
Yes, the model scholar's hat the clergy are wearing is ca 1500. Erasmus (1466-1536) was always depicted wearing one of those.

That is the later version. The ones on the copper plaque covers the side and back of the head, like Erasmus'hat. It is more like a bonnet, shapewise between a Medieval skullcap and the one Calvin wore.

    Erasmus by Dürer:

    Found this about Erasmus' hat:

"Typologically, it appears as an interesting intermediate stage between the cup-like shapes seen from the early 14th century, and the disc-shaped bonnets of the 16th century."
    https://www.academia.edu/40168789/Erasmus_bonnet

Calvin wore the disc-shaped bonnet mentioned in the quote.
