Found this little chap at my local Thrift and for a ten-spot-he was mine. My lovely lady didn't know what to make of him when they first met-after a day or two she's adjusting to our new tenant. He's 12 1/2" (incl stand), and was crafted by a fairly talented (imho) artisan who signed this work-'Monkey Teeth/Detroit/2012'. Can anyone out there find out anything about Monkey Teeth of Detroit ? Thanks All !
I found this article... but more information is needed. https://www.metrotimes.com/arts/transition-between-life-and-death-2145990/ It's the newest one that I found -- 2025.
On this list of events from 2014 is the following brief information: Scarab Club: Emerging Artist Showcase presents "Monkey Teeth" MonkeyTeeth is a native metro-Detroit sculptor who is fascinated with sociology and the human form. De-constructing gender roles and idol worship are main sculptural themes. Main Gallery: Blooms, Beasts, Bugs, Juror: Rick Vian Drop-in $5 Dr. Sketchy (7-10) 6-10pm / 217 Farnsworth Ave. https://detroityes.com/mb/index.php...-3rd-thursday-gallery-crawl-and-beyond.18619/ Now I'm seeing even more if "MonkeyTeeth" is searched with no space between the words. Looks like all of the links seem to be from the 'teens and just go to listings of artists for exhibitions. No information about the artists there.
That's awesome Fig-I was finding nothing. Thanks so very much. I guess this is one of Monkey's less surreal pieces ? Delightful the way art & artifacts migrate around the planet.
