I bought a brass planter from an estate sale today for $2.50.
It was kind of heavy, but having fake plants in it I didn't think much of it.

I get it in the car to show my (unenthused) significant other and see that someone had stacked two other planters down in it.

Two mid-century fish bowl planters. One side of me feels slightly guilty, the other feels excited.

    Anyways, googling them I see prices from $10, $30, $50, $100s, and $1000s.
    They are super cute pots..
They both say made in china, the bigger one says something along the lines of "not for food, could cause poisoning" :cyclops:

These I'm sure are just your cheaper end, but keeping my eye out...
How do you tell what they are worth?

    I understand your feelings.
Perhaps you can temper it with the fact you will likely buy many things not worth what you paid....
...and be stuck with them then eventually give them away or heave them out.

    Add to that:
    Your time.
    Effort.
    Fuel.
    Storage.
    Etc....etc...

There are gazillions of these out there, cause they're pretty, that's why! They are charming when planted and scattered about the deck, porch, patio. And they have uses otherwise as well. When put by the front door, they hold the little short collapsible umbrellas; when in the bathroom the toilet brush can have an attractive home; and the blue and white one can punch up a dark red or green room.

    :)

    Zillions upon Zillions...!
I have my folks older one...( maybe 25 years..)
It's 13 high by 16 inches in diameter ...painted inside with coy fish and outside with various scenes ..& leaves and flowers and more on the flat rim , and it's stunning and beautiful and heavy as lead , ....and one day I walked into a Chinese gift shop ......& saw dozens of similar bowls....all beautifully painted & realized that at retail mine would only be worth $ 200 ...at best.:inpain:

I put it out in my yard sale at $95....and no one even sniffed at it......:sour:

    Hi,
They used to be shipping containers. I found "1000" year old eggs and other items packed in them on the floors of the Chinese grocers back in the 70s.
