    Hi,
I confess. I have vinyl records which I swore to convert to cassettes and still haven't done. Also have cassettes which I swore to convert to cds and still have not done. What the Hell happened to my life???. My FIL converted all his 8mm films to cds that are not playable anymore. I do not feel so bad.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Very interesting thread. I have a VHS player here and also have an old fashioned turn table record player with an attached cassette tape player below. Have my old cassettes which I would not part with.

I had no idea that some of the old VHS tapes could be worth anything. I have a bunch here that are taking up room.

I converted a lot of old family movies that were on 35mm to VHS years ago. One day I hope to convert them to DVD and buy a DVD player so I can watch them without worrying that the VHS tape will go bad.

Somebody, maybe it was my mail man who does vintage car shows, told me that folks buy certain old cassette tapes to play in the old cars for that old vibe when driving.

Glad I saw this thread, always learning.:)

Mothers car which I drove up to this spring has a cassette deck , & I played my tapes in them all the time,
I switched to Fathers car which has a cd player....& had to buy some cd's to fill my music taste .....and it's been hard to replace some older music....so I'm still on the lookout for more.

But , boy...do I miss my selection of mixed tapes.....all done from my own vinyl album collection.......:sour:

I had video of my kids on Beta tape, recorded in 1983-87....but no longer had a working machine. I figured I'd better transfer to digital before it became impossible, so had to watch Craigslist for months until a working Beta player became available at a reasonable price.
The seller forced me to take two large boxes of Beta tapes also, many deteriorated severely. I gave the few good ones to the Goodwill, where they will probably go into the garbage...
But I did manage to transfer the video to digital; took them on flash-drives to Christmas gatherings with the kids, where we all had a good laugh watching them.

Saw this article online and thought that I'd share the link here.

The VHS Tapes You Threw Out Might Actually Be Worth Something
    http://time.com/money/4278476/vhs-tapes-valuable-collector/

Thought that the article was interesting but potentially misleading since a lot of readers will jump the conclusion that their extremely common, mass produced late 90's tapes are suddenly worth something. I'm lurker on several resellers forums and they seem to have fairly good luck flipping rare vintage VHS tapes but you have to search through a large haystack to find that diamond in the rough. I guess low budget vintage horror films with cool names and cover art sell very well. I guess the overwhelming sentiment I picked up is that it has to be incredibly rare (and not found anywhere digitally) to be worth something.

    Your thoughts?

Does anyone know if there is such a beast as a single unit - VHS player on one side and a DVD burner/recorder on the other side??? I would like to try my own cost effective converting.......used to just copy recording my cassettes to the computer then burn a whole bunch to CD or DVD, but my whole computer set-up has changed so much over the years, I'm not sure what I have left now...........Thanks for any help??

Yes, this version seems to sell from $30 to $70, $80 if it was sealed.
