    Hey guys,

Can anyone give me any information on what exactly I would call this? My great grandparents were from South Dakota and I got this from them. Not interested in selling it, but was just curious about what these are called.

From the look of the wood, nail heads, etc I would guess it's at least 70 years old? Only initials on it are "V.P."

Anything at all that you could tell me would be great! Thanks!

70 years old would mean it was produced -- much mental anguish and consulting of fingers -- in 1950-ish. Think unlikely that it's that old or older. 1960s maybe (and I'm just basing that on the palette.) Of course, it could be much newer. Don't think there's much to go on in terms of dating. A photograph of the broken ribbon/cord that was used for hanging might help.

Agree with Debora, probably made in the 60's, 70's when Gunsmoke and the like were most popular shows on TV. Wood has some age to it and could have been salvaged from some fallen down house in the desert.

That'a very good point -- tying in age to proliferation of TV Westerns. Makes sense.

There does appear to be something written there. May we have a close-up please?

Hi guys thanks for the responses. I’ll be home in a few hours and will post more photos. The hanging part was a leather strap that broke unfortunately. You can see some of it Left in one of the photos.

    Really appreciate the input!

Unfortunately the 57 was just an optical illusion from the angle of that photo. Here is a closeup of that area as well as the strap that it hangs from.

edit - also the nailheads on the nails used to assemble it are not round, which is why I thought maybe from the 50s.

Thanks again for all the help.
