    Not sure if it was originally meant to hold candles but I found it with wax residue.
    The cup is about 2 1/8" in diameter and 1 3/4 deep.

    I can't say not possible, because anything is. But I can't help thinking "home made."

    Trying to picture someone carrying that through dark rooms with a candle the only illumination.

    A two inch plus wide alter candle that's two feet high?????

    Or a 2" x 2" votive candle that would give very little illumination????

    You might have one of a kind there.

    I'm posting so I will be notified when someone pops up with a true ID.

    Again, I'm not sure if it is a candle holder. Could be just some type of cup for holding liquid. And the handle is just decorative or for impaired people.
