Any idea who that Russell might be?
    Thanks

Kardinalisimo, I can't help with the artist but here may be a link to his "inspiration" for the subject matter.

Analysis of William Butler Yeats' work "The Second Coming."

    http://users.humboldt.edu/jlwaters/thesecondcoming.html

Here's the (hopefully) "relevant" part in the poem --

"The darkness drops again; but now I know

That twenty centuries of stony sleep

Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,

Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?" (emphasis added)

I find it interesting (although possibly of no significance) that the artist has put the apostrophe after the "54" (in the lower right corner) instead of in front of it IF the 54 signifies the year it was done.

Thanks for the reply. It is possible the artist tried to visualize the poem.
Where did you see 54? You mean 65'?

Kardinalisimo, you are right -- it is 65. I'm sorry about that mistake.

This morning when I looked at the print with fresh eyes and if I stand back from it, I think I see the possible form of the Virgin Mary (look to the far right of the image on your computer screen). I see what looks like an aura/halo with a crescent-shaped area of darkness (hair?) under it.

Then go down a little to the left of center toward the bottom. I think I see the form of an infant (especially the small bald head).

If you stand back from the print and just "quietly" look at those two areas, perhaps you'll see what I see this morning.

I have not finished my coffee yet so I need a bit more time to wake up. Don't see Mary yet but a devilish like face.
I wonder if the artist intentionally had incorporated images in the whole picture or it is just our imagination.

    It's intentional.
