Featured Skating lamps

    According to my grandmother, these were used when ice skating.

    They stand only about 7 inches tall.

    Maybe I'm an idiot. How are these any different from regular lamps?

    A couple things that I'm aware of:

    • They have handles for carrying,
    • They are pretty much enclosed to keep the wind and weather from the flame
    Like little lanterns, basically

    They are a lot smaller than normal size oil lamps.

    I've never heard of ice skating lamps. First thing that came to mind when I saw these were they were miners lamps. Miners would also need a lamps they could carry and not get blown out. The air in the shafts could blow out their flames if they we not covered.

    Sorry, I'm not a price guy. eBay isn't the greatest site for accurate pricing, but if you search skaters lamp, and check the Sold Items check box, you can see recent sales. The color of the glass does seem to impact value, to a certain degree.
