if he had valued it at 3 to 5 tho and then found out it was worth 50 or 60 would that still be a mistake or good fortune
sorry i like to look at the flip side of everything lol

 

i had told my cousin gina everything on tv is scripted , she was on the home and garden show an brought a antique to appraise and value , she wasn't allowed to say anything but what she was told she couldn't let anyone know she infact was an appraiser and dealer lol she found out.

 

everyone makes mistakes as an appraiser collector or whatever lol i thought i had a million dollar stamp , not, a guy was selling almost the exact same stamp on ebay for a million so i emailed him to ask why he thought it was worth that and he replied because of the cancel, it looked like she was wearing a hat , really , lol he never sold it, mine looks like she is wearing a hat and a headset mic for a phone , and yes i felt dumb but i got over it lol

 

I'm not totally crazy about Skinner's because of some of their "expertise".......

 

WHAT !!!!!!!!! nobody has an I felt dumb story but me lol

 

i have never had to deal with any hi end auction houses yet

 

Oh, I've had a FEW dingdong moments here... jumping in to profess ideas on furniture, NA goods, glass, textiles...

i think the appraisers at the show do a pretty good job considering the circumstances , people bring in their objects that no one has seen before or put away for years and they have little time to make an educated guess, i will say, at what that object is and how much it could be worth at auction, it's hit or miss, i watched the making of the ars as i'm sure a lot of us here did and they are limited in resources for looking up this stuff, and a lot of time just come up with a general conclusion.
and i love the show lol heehee
ps i think all their prices are out to lunch after i check it on ebay or the net

 

I read about this a little while ago I got a total kick out of it.

 

I got a kick out of it too. I feel sorry for the appraiser, but we all make mistakes, and hopefully he'll recover.

Have to say, it was kind of an impressive high school project though. I wonder if the actual potter will gain business from this.

I think the $3,000-5,000 was clearly a face-saving AR estimate, esp. since the orig est. was $30K-50K. It was just a decimal point error!

 

these experts are telling me that my Picasso isn't real from a picture but are the first to say that (and everyone knows ) you can't tell anything from a picture , i don't get it lol and i don't trust them anymore

no that's not it i have seen the others and they are not like this and clearly reproduction as i have said i have contacted them they make no claims to have done it and congratulate me on my find , they can't and won't put anything but their own names on them or it is forgery . nick and I are taking it to pawn stars in oct plans are under way. it has his prints in it and that can't be denied

Lots of other things to do while you are there too.
I used to go in that shop long ago when it was just what it was and nothing like now.

 

if i could find anything at all that told me this was not an original i would not peruse it ,and sell it at auction for the 35,000 it was estimated at so i have nothing to lose and everything to gain

 

in canada so it is a vacation , i have been to seatle and detroit ,ny , that's it

 

Nick want to show me, and his new Chinese (shes awesome) wife (she want to be called Eugene ) and my wife the town, as he has been there lots, i wanted to leave tomorrow so to speak but he says it is way to hot there at this time lol

 

I suggest you see at least one Circ show of which I recommend 'O' and The Beatles LOVE.
