brass mortar and pestle

    Mortar looks of a similar age (number is the size). Does the pestle shape fit the mortar for good grinding - if not they may be married? If married, the pestle is heavier and may be earlier (speculation).

    Geez, I'm not trying to stop any conversation, on the contrary. I'm also not saying I'm right, I'm just saying what I think based on what I can see. I've seen, collected and researched an absurd amount of antique brass. But I'm always interested in learning more. Can you find a documented early piece in this design? I looked and I couldn't.

    The pestle seems to fit good for grinding, but it does looked to have more wear on it than the mortar. I think it might have been married up sometime in the past. Thanks again for the information.
