I have 50 hand colored photographs. Many are signed and marked but there are quite a few that are not. Those that are marked are from Mt. Hood, Great Estes Park Colorado, Whirlwind Gorge and the White Mountains of NH.

This photograph is unsigned and has no location. There is a partial label on the back with the name Makielski which is probably the framer or dealer. Any idea where it was taken? Thank you.

Can't help with the location of the mountain but . . . below link is to an artistic family with the surname Makielski. There may be nuggets of information to be gleaned from the information about the "family." You might even be able to contact the educational institution(s) mentioned in the article. ;)

Thank you for that link. :) Unfortunately, there is nothing about photography.

From a quick internet search I discover that the Makielski Art Shop is in Michigan and has been since 1911. They sold/sell photographs so may be an image that was widely reproduced. Have you done an internet image search? Could certainly be the Rockies. There's evidence of logging activity at right side of photograph which may help you identify location. You could also call Makielski's and ask.

Thank you Debora. I did do an image search without any luck. I thought perhaps the peaks and the wooden bridge might be a clue. I don't think the logging activity will be much help because all the mountain ranges, including the east coast, had logging going on.
I will send an email and post back if I get a response.

Speaking of logging, I watched a TV program last week where I was very surprised to learn that logging was allowed in the National Parks back then, including Yellowstone. New Hampshire was almost clear cut 100 years ago from logging. They instituted a program to promote wild Forrest growth. To give land owners an incentive, they gave them a tax break on the land they kept wild. I only paid $15 per acre for the 14 acres of land that I kept in the wild forest program. Logging is still a big business up there.
