    Hello all
I’m hoping to find info on my lamp.
First question - is this the original shade? Also what is the flower? Fuchsia? What is this type of glass/finish called? Carnival? 1950s? Maker?
A friend gave it to me about 20 years ago and I have got so much joy from it. Just always wanted to know more about it

The shade may be of the same era but I don't think it's original to the lamp. The shade appears to be something I would expect to see on an MCM style lamp with a wood and brass base.
I would describe the base on your lamp as an iridescent finish. When you turn the lamp over, there is probably a piece of felt there, if so, have you peeled it away for any clues?
I am botanically challenged, but those do appear to be fuschias to me.

Lustre finish might be appropriate terminology.

    To be clear--it's not pottery?

Looks like pottery to me. Maybe he meant "glaze" instead of glass?

Yes silly me it’s pottery not glass. And the felt was already gone and I don’t see any makers marks or names.
As I’m typing this I’m second guessing myself- I think I meant pottery- it’s still pottery even if it’s thin unlike Roseville or hull etc?
And thank you thank you thank you for saying the shade isn’t original- it’s gotta go
And by the way girls can be hot rods too - apologies for the confusing name lol

So now that I can replace shade without feeling guilt any ideas? I don’t want anything that takes attention from the base. Any ideas where I could see pictures of similar examples to get ideas?
Or could anyone describe what would have been on it

I'm not sure that shade isn't original but... An appropriate replacement shade would certainly improve the lamp's perceived value.

It probably had a silk or rayon shade in a cream or off-white color, narrow at the top, flaring out to a wider bottom. I don't think it would have had fringe, maybe just a narrow gimp at the top and bottom hems of the shade.

Too viney for fuchsias, and the flowers ought to have fat bases behind them holding the nectar. Leaves are wrong, too. So are the stamens, come to that. And fuchsias don't have green sepals like that.

    Is that a fiberglass shade?

If not fuchsia any other ideas? I’ve been trying to name that flower for years.
Im not sure if I would know a fiberglass shade if I seen one. This is like a thin plastic that’s very brittle and breaks easy.

I guess I can be assured it’s not a common pattern of any pottery company

It's just that the shade is sometimes worth more than the lamp.
