Purchased a nice groping of Sajen and other jewelry at auction last week. Got this sterling necklace with a bunch of stones. Any idea what type are these stones or doesn't it matter? TIA! sajen.spinach7.jpg sajen.spinach6.jpg sajen.spinach4.jpg sajen.group1.jpg sajen.spinach1.jpg

probably doesn't matter what they are. MOST of them look like a variation of Quartz, with maybe a couple Jasper ones too. ( Is Jasper a form of Quartz?)
The yellow ones with the white spots have me stumped.

There are a lot of different critters there, mostly quartz. It's hard to tell without closer pics or, preferable, being able to touch them. Some of the purples are probably amethyst, the greens - jasper or jade, the red - jasper. The multicolored blue/purple iridescent pieces are not actually stones at all, but paua (abalone) shell. I'm not convinced the yellow honeycomb-like beads are stones either. Stones are noticeably cooler to the touch than shell or plastic, so that may help you identify them. If they were enameled, they could feel as cool as stones, however, so the best way to tell is to have someone look at them.

Not stones....shells. Pic #4, the shield and some of the smaller beads.
