    Hello Everyone,

I saw this mid century gem and just had to have it. Now I need to figure out when it was made, and by whom.

The vase is mixed media, stoneware (base) and pottery (upper). Two tone brown, the upper portion is darker, with vertical ridges. The inside has a pale yellow tint. It stands 13" tall. The lower portion is 6-1/4"; the upper is 6-3/4". The base measures 3-1/4" across.

Bottom is marked with B216 and what I think is "Italy", although it could also be "Atoly" or "Vtoly", either the stylised writing is quite distinctive.

    Any thoughts?

Hi and Welcome! Very cool vase! I think it says Italy and I'm guessing that rather than being mixed media it may be mixed decorating techniques. The upper portion look like sgraffito to me with two different glazes on the vase.

You might look at Bitossi as a possible maker. A number of years ago I had an Italian lamp and Walter (Italian pottery expert) guided me to a Bitossi identification that also had a number beginning with "B".

Perhaps Walter will look in @Walter Del Pellegrino

My first thought is Bitossi. I can't remember the name of that pattern.

    Maybe the Seta line?

Alot of the mid-century Italian pottery like this originally had Raymor or Rosenthal Netter stickers, too. It might be possible to find one with an original tag.

Thank you everyone for the help and the warm reception.

Looking at what was coming out of Bitossi at the time, especially the work of Aldo Londi, it would seem to fit. That said the closest thing that I can find to it is a lamp in the Seta series, but which has a bright geometric pattern (see below)

I contacted Bitossi directly. Their lovely archivist was able to confirm that this gem is actually one of theirs.

    Thanks again everyone!
