This was left behind in a pile of unwanted items at an auction. I count it among my coolest things ever. What a story there must be behind it.

    Signed "REP, 1943."

The front center of the lid has a tally mark done in the style used in Japan. The hang ring is like those in hand grenade pins.

    That's an amazing thing, Steersman.
And a grenade pin for a hanger.
He gave that native lady some ATTITUDE, too!

And I saw a lady in church on Sunday with that hairdo, or close to it. The tray isn't "if this tray could talk"; it's got the guy's whole tour on it, most likely.

What stuns me is that anybody could look at that thing and walk away from it!!!!

I'd have hauled it off and put it dead center in a cabinet somewhere.

The art alone charms me. That sun is wonderful all by itself.

I posted it a decade or so back on an eBay board. Someone suggested the artist was possibly a crewman on a supply vessel.

That it is Japanese aluminum deepens the mystery to me.

It's been hanging on the wall since the day I brought it home.

    I would say Air Force.

I did a google search for Nazdab and found a reference to the Airforce. So I googled "Airforce Nazdab" and came up with this

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landing_at_Nadzab

It mentions a couple other places found on your tray, and General MacArthur was there watching (from the Air)

It may not be relevant, but you never know.

You've definitely found a piece to the puzzle. I wonder what the "B.B." after Nadzab refers to.
