The Chinese and Latin names are written on each plant page. I looked up several of the names and they were mostly medicinal and edible herbs.

Hmmm, this response seems a bit 'spammish'...

The books I have that look like this one are Japanese. I can't read Chinese or Japanese, though, and am just going on the physical appearance. I don't know if there are Chinese books with the same appearance.

Those are very cool - they are probably old enough that they are out of copyright - nice resource for designers - just as pictures, even if they can't read the text. - cheers

    Thank you for your comments.

Can anyone translate the cover title.?

It basically says it's a drawing representation of plants and trees... I believe it says that this volume (13) is the grasses volume.

or perhaps "cao" could be translated as herbs.

    Thank you, dcjunker.

The text on all the volumes is the same, all that changes is the volume number. So I would think that they are all on one subject.

First two characters mean New and Revised.
I'm talking about the "grasses section" as the two medium sized characters above the characters immediately above 13 (which just mean 13). That would indicate that this volume is the grasses volume.

Dcjunker, I'm curious if it's Chinese or Japanese?

I'm actually not certain. If Hampton could give us a better picture of one of the pages of text I'd be able to tell better. As you know, Japanese uses the Chinese kanji but sometimes the usages are different and there are additional phonetic scripts mixed in.

Oh, squinting on an existing one: Japanese!

Andy, are you sure that all the symbols on the covers are the same other than the volume number? In a set I have, the bottom symbol is different on each volume, while the other symbols are identical.

Thank you Pat for pointing that out, you are correct, I missed that the last symbol was different on each volume. I would assume that it would be the volume number.

Pat, do you have the complete set?

    Andy
