I found that Glancy was a painter and musician from Goshen, OH but curious if someone knows something more about him?
    Thanks

Nothing about art or music on Ancestry or Find-A-Grave, I'm afraid. Born 13 Jul 1900 in Clermont County, Ohio to Allen and Eva Glancy, finished high school but no advanced schooling, worked on the family farm, enlisted in the Army 1942 (that's where I got the HS and farming info.) Never married (according to his death record - 30 Mar 1974 in Goshen.)

I only found one tree containing him - but it is focused on a brother. Sorry.

Took a while to find it. ;) One presumes that as "an eccentric" he only sold locally.

They invite people who own one to share a picture, though I assume Kard's was purchased for resale. They do mention that still lifes are rare.

I doubt that other one is the artist of yours, although without reading about the "John Glancy Room" at the Historical Society, I can see how you might wonder.

By the way, what does the paper under the violin says, Always?

That's what it looks like to me. Always (also referred to by it's first line "I'll be loving you") was written by Irving Berlin in 1925. Perfect timing to include the sheet music in the painting.

I like it....the depiction of an old violin with the sheet music for "Always" has a nice resonance....
I could see it as a reference to a musician who has passed on but is still remembered.....like many I know.

I found a listing for a 1931 landscape by John A. Glancy. The signature looks very consistent; although the photo is small, it is recognizable, with the J slanted a bit more than the other letters, and the middle initial A. being quite prominent.
Sold for $305; I'd guess that Kardinalisimo does have one of the "less common non-landscapes" by this artist.

(another 1931 landscape is seen on the second line at http://stuartholman.com/Jan0909/0909amer.html )

He was family and we have a lot of his paintings. Related to William GLANCY.
