Where could this be coming from? South America?

 

I guess so, Kard. Are we thinking that's a jaguar?

 

Figuring out what kind of wood it's made of will probably help determine country of origin.

 

Jaguar glyphs usually show teeth.

The critter has a Mayan look, but the rest of the bowl doesn't. As art or tourist-ware, it may be a creative piece. A really nice bit of carving, to my eye. The signature may also be a clue.

The Mayans were in Central America, which is actually part of North America.

You might take a picture of the animal alone, against a plain background, and use an image search.

Also, can we see his butt?

Type of wood and style of the carving makes me think Southeast Asia. Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, etc. Critter might be a frog.

 

It could be Polynesian/SE Asian. Maybe it is some kind of tiki god?
Is the signature in English?
