Hi Everyone ! I didn't see a category for something like this so please forgive me for posting in the Antiques Category. I have this lidded wood bowl with brass straps, measures 7" across and 6+1/2" tall without the lid. I don't believe it very old but I do think it's vintage
No idea as to origin, although the seller was located in Hawaii so maybe that's a clue.
I think if I can ID the creature on the lid I'll know where it's from, the white area is accumulated dust, it's not broken.
Signed on the bottom and the lid but I can't make it out, any thoughts ?

I wonder if it is meant to be a Foo dog. Chinese.
But maybe a studio artist rather than an import from China.
    Only my thoughts.

From the back - from the front it kinda looks like a toad.

Toads don't have ears, do they? Definitely some kind of fantasy animal, I think. Cute, though!

That one looks like a bat from the side. Too bad there is no other picture of it.

Looks like a Chinese-style rice-jar or rice-pot/urn...thingy. The big, old-fashioned ceramic ones are called Kam Cheng:

This is a Kamcheng in the style of the Straits Chinese/Peranakan, from the area around Malaya and Singapore. I have a couple of much simpler blue-white Chinese ones at home, which we still store rice in today. Mine aren't antique, though.
