Would appreciate any additional information about a Chinese porcelain charger, about 18" diameter. On the back are several 1/2" metal staples (barely visible in the photo). The marks appear to be "Da Ming Chenghua Nian Zhi" ("Ming Dynasty Chenghua Period Make") [mark 1349 on the Gotheborg.com site] and are under the glaze, not printed on top. Would like to know approximate age and value, maybe name of the pattern/scene. Thank you! chinese_front_2.jpg chinese_back_2.jpg chinese_marks_2.jpg

I would think this is Japanese.

It does look better painted than a lot of stuff that shows up.

I guess it is at least 19th C with those spur marks. The earlier pieces normally have more marks, like 5 or so. How many we have here?

I'm not sure I see any spur marks. But I'm also a bit unsure what I should be looking for.

Those little round scars on the base. They are from the support that was used during the firing. I see two but I guess there should be three.

I think you are right, Kardinalisimo. Another source says it is Japanese Arita (Imari) porcelain, pre-1800. And there's an example on ebay with nearly identical marks of a c. 1700 "Chenghua Marked" fish plate.
