Hello to all! I am a former antique doll reproduction artist, as well as a retired antique doll restoration artist, certified by MacDowell Restorations. My husband and I had a coin and collectibles store for 5 years in the 90s, until overhead got too high, and we put everything left in storage. Since then I have continued to collect the odd and unusual, and have many, seriously many, mysteries to solve. As empty nesters now, it's time to clean out the closets (as well as the basement and attic)! Sincerely hoping you all can help figure out my "what is its", so they can join someone elses personal collections.

Do I read you correctly that you did repairs on antique dolls, not just produced them?

Spotting repairs would really be helpful. Some can be quite obvious, but not all.

Yes, I started out learning to make bisque reproductions, then moved on to repairing till the chemicals used in the products for restoration were too much for me to continue using them. A lot of it was actually auto body repair products. It is tough to detect really good repairs. With composition you really need to get used to what the finish should look like to tell. Bisque Is much easier. You need to use a flashlight inside the piece to illuminate it. An ultra violet light or mini flashlight will show differences in paint, or cracks. Hope it helps! Thanks, I'm sure my husband will be sharing about coins soon enough, lol, as that would be his area of knowledge. I just smiled and maned the cash register for his customers. Lol, my customers were for the weird collectibles part of the store.
