Unusual preserve pot (with soother??)

Enamelled decoration, possibly Victorian (?), but is the handle's dummy/soother shape coincidence or intentional?

 

I've run across a couple of pieces of early 1900's glass with similar handles. I used to think they were mistakes in the manufacturing process but now I'm starting to think that they were intentional. A slanted handle would seem less likely to be dropped than a straight handle. You would have to keep turning it, though, so it faced the right way. Perhaps a design innovation tried by a couple of different manufacturers but that never really caught on? I think I'm starting to spend way too much time thinking about these things!

I wonder if this was for honey rather then preserves

 

That might be the reason for the slanted handle...so you could tilt the lid, instead of pulling it completely off.
