So I have had this piece for years. I am assuming it is Japanese but the ones I have encountered in the past have always been articulating. It is nicely done. Not sure what this is made of? Possibly pewter but I had originally thought silvered bronze but now that I have uploaded photos there is a gold tone. Scratched a couple places underside that showed silver (spelter?????) Anyone have thoughts? IMG_6120.JPEG IMG_6113.JPEG IMG_6115.JPEG IMG_6116.JPEG IMG_6117.JPEG IMG_6118.JPEG IMG_6119.JPEG

    Hi,
It is a cricket not a grasshopper. They were made for good luck. "A cricket on the hearth" is good luck". A grass hopper does NOT have such long antenna but a cricket does.
