Very grateful to find this board. I was apprenticed in the antique business on Long Island, NY in 1999 although I've live in Seattle for most of the last 35 years. I was told I should specialize in something so I picked books. I realized about 8 months ago that I should generalize again because the book market really suffered over the years. So now I'm enjoying buying and selling "everything" again. It's great to gain more knowledge about what I am discovering.

Both my parents were "antiquers". My mother furnished most of the house with them, and my dad had his mantiques, like old alarm clocks, razors, old books, and so on.

 

Welcome to the forums! Hope you can share some of your insights into the antique books business. With the rise of Amazon and cheap digital/free copies of hard to find books I can certainly understand why it is not the business to be in currently. I've always been fascinated by the business model of the big penny booksellers on Amazon.

Hope you find some new niches you like in the business. I am an collector myself but love to hear perspectives from the folks on the other side of the counter.
