Featured Mahogany wine table ,is it Ameican or English.

As said on an earlier post ,I did not know about Empire American furniture,
This table if American is probably not Empire period,more again a version of an English pie crust top wine table in the chippendale style ,with a variation on the legs ,Talon claw ,a variation of the ball and claw.
The turned column is Victorian may be William 1V style.

Would be interested in members Thoughts.
It was painted white when I bought it,lucky for me they had painted over the old wax and dirt, I managed to chip away and lift the paint of without damaging the original finish.

Looking at the hardware on the tilt top, I'm thinking this is post WWI.

If this was painted white, you did an excellent job of getting it off without leaving anything in the crevices.
Nice looking table.

 

I think you see hardware like that much earlier than WWI, I'm pretty sure I've seen it on 19thc pieces.

 

I agree, English, possibly other W European. American is very unlikely.

English. I don't see anything post WW2 on the hardware on the BASE. I do think those legs were got at by someone who decided carving flowers was a thing: they ought to be plain. And the motif is unrelated. Feet are mid 19th at the latest. I am wondering if someone replaced the top, or married it.

 

I have seen quite a few Georgian style carved mahogany tilt-top tea tables with a base carved with foliage at the knees such as these trailing bell flowers. As I recall most had birdcage action.

 

We call these pie crust tables. Strange group of decorations - trailing flowers look Hepplewhite although not inlaid while the feet are strange - scary - sort of Queen Anne. Hardware looks normal. Nice job of cleaning and restoring. Why would someone paint a nice table white?

Cocktail table ,and observe the legs ,do members agree that they are very close in shape and style ,to my table?

I was lucky ,as I said because the old wax and dirt was not cleaned of before it was painted ,I just chipped away slowly getting under the layer of paint and it came of quiet easy just took a while. because the crevices were very thick with dirt it came out of them very easy.
