    Hi everyone!

New to the forums and was hoping I could get help identifying the painter of a painting that’s been in my family for almost 40 years. Also curious if I should insure this painting as I currently rent.

My mother purchased this in 1982 in Seattle. She isn’t sure if it was brand new or the history of it.

Greetings, BrentN. I see that you have posted 2 images of this painting in the Gallery. What you need to do is to use the little camera icon in the Reply tool bar to embed copies of those images into this thread so members do not need to go back and forth while commenting on them.

I checked out your painting in the gallery. In my opinion, the cost of insurance will exceed the value of the painting, so don't bother insuring it.

The name in the lower left corner looks to be Hitchcock, but who that might be I do not know. Is there anything written on the back?

Looking at the frame (not always conclusive but a clue nonetheless) I suspect this painting was new in '82. A picture of the back would certainly help. Maybe there's a title on the back?

I'm having a tough time identifying the mountain and direction of view. If it's meant to be Rainier, it's not a very faithful representation, from almost any angle.

Factory/decorative. Lack of skill in some areas of the painting.

That does look like a Mexican frame.

Brent, would you be kind enough to post a photograph of the back including frame and close-up photographs of any labels, stickers and/or hand-written notations? And, in answer to your question... It's very likely that the value of your mother's painting is decorative which would mean that insurance wouldn't be necessary.
