help identify a piano

Hello, i am very new to all this but my family has owned this piano for a while. We cannot find the date on it, so if anyone has any tips on where, please go ahead and help. Plus I guess this is the creators signature, so it would help of anyone has any idea of around which timeline it was created?

Open it up to see the iron frame. You didn't say if it was a grand or an upright - its easier to open up with a grand. There is usually information cast into the frame that identifies it.

They did, and this one is from Dresden, which was occupied by the Soviets after WWII, but German pianos were also exported.

 

And we don't even know how old this one it may be.

I'm not suggesting that it's newer, but I can't even tell what letters are missing. It could be a lot older than your "invasion and booty" comment assumes. Just saying.

 

I would guess pre-WWII at least, probably quite a few decades earlier, but we haven't seen much of it yet, so nothing definite.
As for booty, I would rather drag off something less heavy and made of precious metal, but that's just me.

All I can find under "Seidel & Naumann Dresden" is typewriters. I wonder if they made pianos for a short time? This description about the company was taken from a book on typewriters. Possibly would put the piano somewhere between 1868-1930 or later. Not sure how long the company remained in business.

From a book describing the "Erika" typewriter: The typewriter was manufactured in the 1930's by the German company Seidel & Naumann. The company was founded in 1868 by Karl Robert Bruno Naumann. In 1869 Emil Seidel invested into the company after which it became Seidel & Naumann.

Typewriters and I found sewing machines...but no pianos?

 

Siedel & Naumann was a prolific German manufacturer. They made almost anything mechanical.

Sewing machines, typewriters...I think, even bicycles.

Stuff like that wasn't unusual in Germany in those days.

I have a Wertheim sewing machine from 1910. Wertheim also made pianos.

 

Might I suggest....uhm... .... ok, let's wait for a photo of the piano.

 

A-G. vorm. = "Aktiengesellschaft vormals" = corporation formerly (known as)" = 1886 and later.
from the company's history it may be a branch that was sold off to somebody else; so it might be a rare - even very rare - example.

Could not find the date inside the piano.. any guesses? Maybe there’s some other place?
