Curtain hell

    Yeah. I tried to remove it way earlier but it's extremely solid and basically impossible to remove.

    Just an opinion but... I think any attempt to curtain that area will look like a chapuza given the placement of the existing cornice board. You may spend a lot of time and energy (and cash) and still not get the effect you want.

    Do you think that actually highlighting the board and maybe coating it with a pattern or something would make it better?
    Right now it looks like it's trying to be part of the wall but failing.

    No, that would indeed highlight it. The best thing to do (in my opinion) is distract the eye in the foreground before it reaches the cornice and wall with windows (which should be as monochromatic as possible.)

    screw curtains....wood blinds would be a superior classy look.....white to match....
    or colored to compliment..

    Now that'san idea.... Or if screwing them in is a problem, what about shoji screens? Japanese papet, or these days plastic panels in wood frames. No screws required, just set it and forget it.
