The comparison with those shown in google is obvious that they are not the same.
The old doesn't have handles. The trim is completely different.
The only piece on the google page that matches the OP's piece - is the OP's piece. Everything else has handles and square not rounded trim.

Now look at this page -
How many do you see that are closer in design?

LOL, meanwhile, back at the ranch..... Cluttered continues beating her drum :hilarious:
Again, i really don't know but would guess earlier than 1950.
This thread offers a good example of why relying on photographs alone is risky with old furniture. The camera misses so many details that are easily seen in person, it's weird but i have been fooled more than once with photos.

This could easily be 1940s as well.

Exactly clutteredcloset, I have spent so much time today on google using as many permutations that I could think of! For example, repro Victorian sideboards, Lexterton repro sideboards, Victorian sideboards etc, and I have found nothing that resembles my sideboard apart from antique Victorian sideboards.

Well I'm eating humble pie here.

    I apologise.

I showed the photos to a friend who is an antique dealer, furniture restorer and French polisher.

He immediately said it is a Victorian Chiffonier around 1850.
Sadly it is not worth a great deal as no one wants them.

Thank you to everyone who has replied to my query. I asked about the sideboard just out of curiosity as I know nothing about old/antique furniture. I have had it for many years and have always loved it, because to me it looks good and stores all my clutter!
As I said in my reply to clutteredcloset above, I have spent hours on google and can not find anything that looks like my sideboard apart from Victorian, which had the same push up bolt!
So my feeling now is that clutteredcloset and giotto are correct.
Somethings that I didn't mention in my original description, size just over 6 ft long, 3 ft high, and 2 ft deep. Extremely heavy, and the top lifts off.

We posted at the same time! sad that no one wants them, but I am not worried about the value.

Thank you for the apology. We'll take it.
However, I do think you might owe a special one to giotto for your ;)abuse of power;) in deleting his pictures.:sorry:

Well it just goes to show we can all learn something new. Thanks for the interesting debate, and to our moderator, for letting it run it's course. BTW, no one mentioned the subtle Gothic arches, which ,with the otherwise smooth facade, made me think c.1850s.

I didn't participate in this discussion since those of us in the US know English furniture only to the extent that we need to be able to distinguish early (pre victorian) furniture from that imported to satisfy the demand for early American furniture. Importing victorian furniture never made sense since by that time there were more than enough US furniture companies churning out home made furniture.

Looking back at *all* the pictures now it is clear that this is an earlier piece. That said, the pictures here were a mixed bag, and led to the attribution problems here *because* they were dribbled out slowly only after being coaxed for. This picture in particular does not look like it is from a victorian piece, and it was after posting this one that a few contributors thought is was 20th century. I can understand why:

The lesson I take, is that better pictures should be posted when a new discussion is started. And if you feel forced to make a judgement based on incomplete pictures, make sure you leave plenty of wiggle room because, as James has pointed out repeatedly, PICTURES OF FURNITURE CAN LIE.

    Thanks Cluttercloset,
It seems you are the only one that has understood my side of the story,I have apologized a million times for my honest mistake ,It is interesting I am new here and members do not seem to read my posts properly and do not seem trust my opinions( re the sideboard post) then everyone makes excuses why they did not know it was English.
And I am the baddy ,you are Right where is the apology to me ,It was quite funny to see Dave's post of a Victorian Sideboard with carved back, when the deleted pictures showed the same thing.

    Regards Giotto.

Also am wondering if the difference in the time zone between Australia and USA

    may be affecting my posts.

An apology was issued, did you not see the "Winks" in Cluttered's posts ?

I sought clarification from an independant source, someone in the trade who does not post here.

From the original photos I thought it was a repro, I was wrong.
I was not being dishonest or calling you a baddy or mistrusting you.

The photos I deleted in one post were multiple black & white pictures with mirrors, nothing like the single photo I posted.

Don't forget you are here because of me.
You were banned last week due to previous infractions.

    I reinstated you.

Do members know that things get deleted without them knowing the content,

Yes I and the other moderator delete things everyday from scammers, spammers, people who are rude and double posts.

Your posts are not affected because you are in Australia, we have many members from different states including yours and their posts come through.

    Now get over yourself.
