Hello all! My first post here!
Hello! So, I went antiquing and picked up this cast iron (pretty heavy!) parrot figurine. I'm just interested in learning anything anyone may know about this piece? I don't care about it's worth, just want to know it's story! There's also these 2 holes on either side of the beak, maybe to hold something? Not sure! I used the Gatorade bottle for size reference. Also, no markers/logo/number, anything.

Couldn't find this in a quick search but don't think it is terribly old. Wait for others to chime in.

    Quite possibly a door-stop.

Could represent an Amazonian parrot hawk.

The species has evolved to look very much like a parrot so it can creep up on gatherings of parrots unnoticed, minimising the amount of effort required to get a meal.

Hello guys! I don't know what time it is for most of you, but I live in MA and I just woke up (6:45 AM). Sorry about the picture, I didn't know I had to enlarge it or how to add multiple. I only figured it was a parrot because of the rounded beak.

It should have a bell hanging from its beak, shown as a desk bell.

There certainly isn't any rule that pictures have to be enlarged. It is only a good practice to click the "Full Image" option rather than the "Thumbnail" option when posting pics because many many people won't take the time to click a thumbnail to see a pic.

Very easy to post multiple pics. By using the "Upload a File" button, click a pic on your computer. Do this for any number of pics you want included in a message. Once the pics are in your message go down to them and click the "Full Image" button next to each one.

As to what this is, like Brad I haven't found another like it googling or a reverse image search. It could be a doorstopper, but they are usually flat on one side. I did find similar, but not identical, lamps with a parrot holding the light/lamp in their mouths. Again want to stress they certainly are not identical to yours. The stand are very different. Also many if not all were painted. Here are google images of some of them.

Also because it's a PITA to have to open and close each photo on a phone. If one wants to go back to a photo you have to do this again and you can't compare easily. :p
Many of us use our computers and phones also and some may only have a phone to interact here.

    Lol it's a 20 OZ. bottle

I don't know how to enlarge the picture or how to add multiple to one post. Thank you guys again! I go antiquing a lot, and always wonder where the pieces I buy came from. Not for the worth, just the stories. I'll probably have many posts just like this one in the future Hope I don't get annoying!
