Do you think buying unsigned paperweights is a waste? I understand they are not priceless works of art. But am wondering if I should be zeroing in on a particular (or 2) artisan? Some of the newer paperweights are quite beautiful and match my coastal decor.

Sounds like you are not buying to resell, but to collect and decorate with.
You should buy what you like at a price you feel is right for you. Not because you think they will be an investment.

You should be aware that there are a lot of Chinese imports. Some very poorly done, usually have grey bottoms as they are not polished. However, the Chinese also put out some very nice pieces of glass now. So buying unmarked can be risky.

    unsigned paperweights...doesn't mean unmarked.....

Many fine old weights weren't marked - Clichy, for example. If you like it, buy it. Chinese weights can be lovely.
