18k Fludo Chronograph

New to the collection, an awesome example of the Fludo Chronograph by Fluvius Boillait in 18K. Needa a little TLC!!

 

i thought it had to say chronograph to be a certified chronograph...?

I am fairly familiar with this type of watch. The most distinguishing characteristic is that the case is paper thin, and the amount of gold used, although sufficient, is the least possible that they could get away with. The movements are usually basic standard ESA chronograph movements and the brand names are various but obscure.

None of the better makes produced this type, in effect it was a cheap and cheerful version of an expensive class of watch that would have cost several times as much in a more robust (and of course, heavier) case.

The movements were of good quality and really deserved a better case, if only in base metal. Prices for this type in gold and the same movements in base metal cases are roughly the same, the added value of the small amount of gold is offset by the added durability and utility of a base metal case.
