I bought a whole set of this very pretty Haviland china. Have been photoing it for days. I know that it's schleiger 664c, but I can't identify the type of flower. Dona Schleiger called it "floral" and then said "PomPom". But the only thing I can find on pom pom is these weird things you make with yarn or other stuff. Anyone know this flower? Carnation maybe? TY!

carnation is a good guess or then again it looks close to maybe an aster - just guessing! Beautiful china and that is a fact!

The leaves look more "chrysanthemum-ish" to me.

I have some Stokes Asters in my yard and the leaves are long and slender, not like these. I'll check out mums photos. BTW, my DH said that mums are out now in the garden stores. Really looking forward to a few this year.

Oh YAY! Just looked at some mums on line and I think that's it! Thanks, Bakers and Jacko!

Google pom pom flower bush; there are quite a few possibilities. Mums are larger and flatter, but there is always artistic license.

Not any kind of dianthus, they've long spear shaped leaves. Nor is it any kind of aster: that includes Michaelmas daisies. The leaves are classic chrysanthemum. There are multi floral ones like these still grown, but don't forget that the ones on the dish are early cultivars. Many of those massive flowers were hybridised later.

I would agree with Mums too.

I sell most of my Haviland on line so I wanted to include the flower in the description and I also agree that they're mums and likely older ones.

I had a large hand painted Haviland salad bowl once that had dandelions painted on it. I suppose that's what they put in their salads.
