Painting of Henrik Ibsen

I've bought some time ago 100+ year old painting of Henrik Ibsen mounted on an antique stand.
Although it is an amateurs work I like it very much for both the subject and the age

 

Maybe the gent had had a stroke........kind of interesting........maybe it's a "sleeper"!!!! There's a lot of feeling in that face.......

The canvas needs careful stretching......

And I absolutely LOVE the stand!!!! I have one similar all brightly 'gilded'.....but love yours!!!

The canvas unfortunately is very tynn so I believe stretching is too dangerous if not performed by professionals.
The stand as been broken before and not properly glued back but still looks very nice to me too
Funny you should mention a stroke because he did have one 7 years before he passed away..... You may be on to something

 

Then if you're planning on keeping it, I would definitely seek out the professionals!!!! They might want to line it to stabilize it....I honestly do NOT know it that's a good thing or not.....the pros should be able to guide you on that. It IS simple, but lovely! And there's definitely a left sided facial droop......up slightly to the eye as well.....adds to the portrait authenticity....to my thinking!!

 

Is there no signature anywhere? Nothing on the back? The frame looks modern so I'm wondering if it covers up something.

Tomorrow I will post it. (but I've googled it with no results)
