Featured 19th C. Oil

    Agree, very nice painting. It's safe to say the mom wasn't out in a boat painting, so this must be after an older painting or print. I suck at image matching, but there are some wizards here who may be able to find it.

    The left boat seems to float too high on the water. You may be able to ID the type of boat and the round building and towers shoreline, but since painted from a print that won't necessarily be where this was painted - but could help with ID of original. My gut is dutch but I'm probably wrong.

    Quick search finds a few references to W.E. Rogers of Philadelphia stretchers on paintings of the period:

    Thanks a lot. Just noticed that Bertha( if same one) was born in 1848 so in 1866 she would have turned 18. Maybe a birthday present.

    Jeff, MY thought was Dutch as well!! So, maybe just a 'Dutch scene'!

    Maybe family ancestors had Dutch origin.
