First I hope this is where I'm suppose to be for this item. I bought this at the gw the other day just thought it was a neat box. And when I started researching there's a couple of these on ebay saying 19th century and it's paper mache?? The name on sticker is H.M. Sadiq it's 6 1/2 inch long and about 2 1/2 inch tall. Do you guys think this is 19th century? Is it paper mache? And what about the picture on top is it hand painted? Tell me what you think about this. I really appreciate all the help you all have given me!!!! IMG_0627.JPG IMG_0628.JPG IMG_0630.JPG IMG_0631.JPG

Definitely agree not 19th century with that label. As the internet has many papier-mache lacquer boxes with HM Sadiq label as well as a multitude of other such Kashmir boxes, I wonder if Sadiq was an importer or exporter rather than an artist. This may be H.M. Sadiq or a son of his of Hassanabad, Kashmir death notice??

This dates, best guess, to the 1980s or later. These Kashmiri lacquer boxes turn up near me all the time. The decoration on this one is something I've never seen before.

I knew Mr. Sadik personally for 17 years as did business with him and others. The label is absolutely genuine.
