I Saw it differently than what you saw. A "Well known member" Showing frustration and name calling is not a way to get your point across.

You stated you already purchased it, at an estate sale. Therefore, you've already been dishonest from the start.

The person that posted it on the other site is not the same person that posted it here, and they both have different stories about having recently purchased it. The stories don't jive with each other. The person on the other site says they recently purchased it from an 80 year old chinese man - who(the 80 year old man) told them they bought it in 1980. Mr. Williamson stated here that he recently bought it from an estate sale. Which is it? I still don't have an answer for that. If Mr. Williamson is considering purchasing it from an individual- then he definitely hasn't already purchased it from an estate sale, as he originally stated.

  3. Settle down, I already posted I was in the process of purchasing it from a gentleman. It is in an estate sale forum for your info not that I have to give that information to you anyway. I apologize for saying I already purchased it. I was in the process of getting payment ready to send through PayPal. You are spending too much time trying to make me look bad. I asked about Markings and did never try to sell this item so what is the big deal? Are you the Antiquer's Police? Focus on helping people. Again, my sincerest apologies for stating I purchased it.

The OP doth protest too much, methinks.

I don't think there's any need to lecture me on focusing on helping people. I do my best to help anyone here when I have any information that might be useful to them. I have not put any effort in to trying to make you look bad, if it feels that way, maybe it's because what you did looks bad.

Also - please don't tell me to settle down when all I did was point out the inconsistency in your story, and the fact that someone else posted the same item in another forum, at the same time, asking for the same advice. I am completely calm and enjoying my day, thank you very much.

To be completely honest - I, and I think some others here, are less likely to go above and beyond to help someone research an item that they don't even yet own, rather than something in their own collection. I'm not saying that you can't, or shouldn't ask for help on a potential purchase, just that folks here can sometimes feel like they are being used as a free research team for people who are looking to make a quick buck (without even owning the item in question), again, not saying that's what you are doing, but I do think most of the time people here are more willing to help out when the item is something you actually own.

Good enough for you, yes, perhaps because he's not lecturing you or telling you to settle down, like he is towards me.

  7. This is the last post I am going to make on this Thread. This all started with me asking the Question " Can anyone identify this Marking" I posted a picture of the marking only. I was then asked to post a picture of the piece itself and that is when I posted the item. I was only interested in finding out about the marking so I could know if it was a reproduction or not. I sincerely apologize for disrespecting or upsetting anyone in this thread. Justin

It's not that uncommon, and hardly cause for concern. Many people may find it is not possible to retain their username across all social media, so may ask a partner, or friend to enquire on their behalf by simply pretending to be the owner, as some groups don't like talking to a third party. Which I also don't understand why that would be an issue either.

Even if there were some subterfuge going on of some sort, what difference would it make to the question at hand, nor the answers we could offer. The majority of people here are not professionals, just enthusiasts. We essentially help people cut down on their google searching time by providing answers when we know them.

For the buyers, they wish to know they are getting a bargain or not being ripped off. For the seller, they wish to know they are asking for as much as possible for potentially valuable items. For those purely interested in what something is, or what it's worth with no intent to sell what they have, well then, yippee for them too. That's what this website is good for.

Justin, nor anyone else in here, has no need to explain anything about who has the item, nor his intentions for it. Most people offer such information up freely anyway, except some who have encountered such resistence before.

That's good and I wasn't accusing you of doing anything wrong nor dishonest. I was merely pointing out that Justin hadn't done anything wrong nor dishonest either.

Now that he is aware of how you and potentially others in the group may feel about it, he may choose to approach such enquiry differently.

Personally, I have no issue with anyone wishing to learn about an item, regardless the reason. Learning is good, even if just for a quick buck, which is becoming more important to many around the world given the financial situations many are finding themselves in these days. If we can offer free advice which may benefit someone else in need, I'm all for it.
