    You hold the pin with needle nose pliers.
    I thought everyone knew that.....I guess not!!

    @stracci
    Most of us here abhor the pin test and do not recommend it.

    Well, I guess if you attack something in the wrong way you could damage it.
    I have used it gently on a hidden area of a piece in question, with conclusive results.
    Sorry to get everyone up in arms!

    Hi,
    The biggest problem is certain celloid pieces burst into flames causing the problems. Also I have seen many pieces with burn holes on the bottle or sides which will detrait the piece from being in great shape to almost worthless. It is the same for silver were people file the bottom enough to leave scars. We as a group are trying to stop people from harming objects. We certain value your excellent remarks and are very glad to have you join our friendly board.

    Unfortunately that doesn't make it much safer. I have seen burning celluloid, it spreads within seconds.
    The first time I saw it was when we were watching a real (reel ;)) black and white film of the Russian Revolution in class. Probably the staged 'Storming of the Winter Palace'. We suddenly saw an explosion in full colour on the screen, very realistic.:D And it was realistic, the heat from the old projector was burning a hole in the celluloid, and the projector caught fire. Within a minute the class was evacuated and the fire extinguisher finished the Russian Revolution.

    Wouldn't that have been nice if a fire extinguisher could really have done that!
