Help with a Brass Figure and markings

View attachment 242856 I have an item that I've acquired that research, so far, has yielded nothing.
I was hoping someone would recognize it.

An old brass figure of what appears to be a crawling man/soldier with a sword, rifle and pistol. It has a lot of writing on it, but I cannot read it. Appears to be Greek?

Any thoughts?

The writing looks sort of Greek, the figure looks sort of Asian, but you need to provide some angles so we can see his face, etc. All of these pictures are for this one piece, correct?
It will be much easier if you create a post for each piece and provide details accordingly.

I'm interested in what the markings translate to. I tried an online translating page with poor results.

The artist's name is E. Nahcepe. Late 1800's artist in Russia. So the language was Cyrillic, and not Greek. Fantastic!

 

Last name transliterates to Lansere.

 

Other name is something like F. Schopenz.

 

I believe this is the sculptor -- Evgeny (Eugene) Lancere (Lanceray) -- Parenthetical parts of the name are how this Wikipedia article interprets his name.

Yup. They show the Russian with an accent over the final E that we have not seen elsewhere.

 

While studying the Russian language I learned that they do not use accent marks. All of our textbooks had them, but those were for the purpose of teaching us where to accent the words. The rules for Russian inflection are not as straightforward as they are for some languages (e.g., Spanish).

I notice that Lancere was Russian but his family was of French origin. That is probably why the strange placement of the accent mark. It does sound more like a French name that way.

Have no doubt you are completely correct. I have no training in Russian but do know I never see diacritical marks used. I think Wiki put that first one there to help with pronunciation since in Cyrillic it is not clear.
