Okay I'm totally new to collecting antique glass and I would greatly appreciate anyone who could possibly help identify some pieces I recently purchased. 497666806.jpg 497666825.jpg

Ok and ive tried looking up that number as well and I haven't been able to find anything on it. I picked it up at the goodwill for $6 bucks and I'm really interested in finding more out about it. Any suggestions on any websites or anything?

It doesn't appear to be glass, but pottery.

Here is some information about the company and years using the mark.
    http://www.thepotteries.org/mark/a/alcock.html

Generally speaking this was a type of pottery that is a refined terracotta red bodied earthenware. The type of decoration was popular in the 19th Century and you will find this type of decoration sometimes referred to as Prattware.

Now using "Prattware" as a search term will generate many things that look nothing like yours but it's because "Pratt" was a name applied to more that one type of decorative technique so don't let it get to you.

Wedgwood made a terracotta type pottery called Rosso Antico that has some similarities so when looking for Alcock pieces you may see some of the Wedgwood pieces.

Try looking for terracotta Prattware as that will probably lead you to some similar pieces.

    Hi
I've been looking for the piece still and I can't find anything that even resembles mine. Any other suggestions and where can I get a free online appraisal? Thank you again for the info I'm happy you were able to enlighten me!

If you look at the ebay link you will find actual sale prices of some of this type of ceramic. Finding the exact piece may just be a matter of waiting and watching.

I'll say a few things about value. First of all your piece is damaged. Someone might still want it, especially if they happen to collect Alcock pieces, but generally this type tends to bring fairly low prices when perfect so the damage may have significant impact on value.

Where you are located may make a difference. If you're in the UK then the market may be different than in the US or Canada etc. And then there is the question of what avenue you have to sell. If you're going to sell at a flea market/car boot the price someone will pay may be different that if you're going to try selling online or in a shop. So what it's worth has a lot of variables.

You can look at Worthpoint for more examples of this type but you have to sign up to see the actual sales prices. Though they exist, I personally don't know of any online appraisals other than actual auction houses that might give a ballpark of what they think something might sell for at auction. Of course the sellers fees can be significant if they will even handle it.

With that level of wear and damage I'd walk past this at an auction sale.

Welcome DueFresh! You should probably start your own thread to bring more people in to look at your pieces.
