Since the metalwork is American, might this be Steuben Aurene? The bottom looks right for it. Seems I also remember some with scratched numbers.

I was wondering about that also, I will look at Steuben, thank you

OK, I looked at Steuben Aurene and I didn't find anything with a pinched shape to the glass, it seems Steuben Aurene shapes were more classical. I did look through Skinner's auction results for Loetz and found one with silver overlay that was clearly marked by Alvin in Providence RI.

Thanks! Trying to ID this piece has been fun. I just emailed a serious Loetz collectors society in Switzerland with photos and questions, I'll post whatever they reply.

    Hi folks,
Marie, what an incredibly beautiful piece! I forgot how swoony I get over Art Nouveau glass until I stated looking through tons of it on Google just now lol.

I'm thinking Loetz, as well. The last vase you linked to has an 'X' scratched into the bottom with the number like yours (below). The seller called it an 'A' but there is no horizontal line, making it look more like an 'X'. The shape, intense color and overall 'feel' are similar, too.
I thought at first the MF maybe was Muller Freres but the mark would be on the glass and not the overlay, and looks completely different anyway. I'd lean more toward Loetz.

Years ago, I passed a giant heap of 'stuff' in front of a house that had been emptied out. 99% of it was trash, but I spotted a black and silver vase on the ground. Screeched to a stop lol, and picked it up. It was a black glass Art Nouveau vase with sterling overlay in an iris design. I was amazed it wasn't cracked or chipped, as it was literally in the middle of the street.

Thank you cxgirl! When the person I bought it from sent me a bad photo of a table full of glass and asked if I was interested, I zoomed in on it and just about screamed at the screen YES!

antsfarm, do you have a picture of the black vase????????

Well...I don't have much info for you. I got chastized on the facebook page for asking about this one (Very long story)

Maybe look at Kralik as well for this one (Glatt Silberiris)

I heard back from the Loetz collector site, it seems they are connected with the Facebook page but are reluctant to weigh in when they don't know if the person asking is a dealer looking for an ID, they prefer to help collectors.

I told them I am a collector, and by the time I emailed them I had decided this puppy is staying with me. I may never come across anything so beautiful so it has a home in my hutch and is the queen of my meager collection

Anyway, this is what they had to say... the vase is definitely Loetz. Orders for Loetz pieces were placed by jewelers and they applied the silver overlay, so that is why it was done by an American company. They also feel the "MF 1909" engraved on the silver represent the initials of the person who originally acquired this piece or who ordered it for a gift.

They are not 100% positive, but they think the decor (the name for the glass and its finish) may be Delphi. Whatever it is I will print out their email, tuck it inside and enjoy looking at this wonderful piece every day.

Thank you everyone for your ideas and input!
