    Dear Antiquers,

this is a glass ceiling lamp that has been in my family since about three generations back. It was apparently bought in the U.S.A., but I have a feeling that it may be French.

I have searched the web to find something similar, but with no luck so far.

The hand painted "man in the moon" appears to me to be related to the European postcards dating back to the Victorian era, like this one:

Also, the top of the lamp has some kind of "fleur-de-lis", which perhaps also could be a hint that the lamp has French origins?

What are your thoughts? Where and when might it have been made?

    Best regards,
    Nat

To me the 1920's after electricity became more widely available and used sounds more likely. There is a Lamp group on facebook that may be able to help.
    Interesting fixture.

    Thank you George.
Yes, the 1920s would be my guess as well.
What is the name of the Facebook group?

What's the bulb fitment and socket like internally? Mad thing, I like it a lot.

Im wondering if its a converted gas fixture? That cap looks more victorian than 1920s to me. Maybe it was a nursery fixture? I googled for a while too, nothing like it that I could find. Maybe its custom.

I wondered that too, johnny. And nursery would make perfect sense.

Looks very Muller Freres to me, but that's just a WAG.

Agree, not American and appears to have some good age to it. French is as good a bet as any. No reason to believe it is not all original based on what I can see.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    That is gorgeous!

In the early 20th century "paper moons" were a popular studio prop. The one on this postcard that I own is different in style, but you get the idea.

This postcard is from October 1917, as there is writing on the back saying when it was taken. I know these sorts of moons were popular on a lot of things, but it does sort of go along with the possible date range of 1920s mentioned above.
