    It's from... no surprise... Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. The 1862 edition. Artist is Émile-Antoine Bayard. Might be from a broken copy or a reproduction as available.

    Says "confier, c'est quelquefois livrer" at the top of OP's but not on Debora's link. Don't know whether that makes it more likely to be from the book but could help trace where it is from. Along with size (OP gave no size) since books are known sizes.
